Tainted Research

I read an article in our local newspaper. It was written by, Jeannine Aversa of The Associated Press. In it, she stated, the deficit is at an all time high, because of Americans insatiable appetite for foreign made goods. Ms. Aversa, statement is based on a report given by Clifford Waldman, an economist at the Manufacturer’s Alliance/M.A.P.I., a research group. The group tracks goods, services, investment flows, and unilateral transfers between countries. The M.A.P.I. was using data released in a report from the Commerce Department to calculate its findings.

It’s not because of conglomerate outsourcing, or manufacturers moving out of the United States, or companies buying cheaper materials overseas, or other countries using trendy American sounding names for their products. It’s not because American Industries are seeking foreign investment, or foreign companies buying American businesses, real estate, etc. It isn’t even because of the present administrations two wars overseas, or the Federal Government’s over spending, and buying everything from pharmaceuticals to military arms overseas. It is none of these, or others I haven’t mentioned.

Their reason for the largest deficit of all time is because we Americans love foreign made goods. I wonder which Americans they’re referring to. Maybe, it’s the two million people walking the streets looking for work. The ones that lost their jobs to foreign interest. Those who now work two low paying jobs just to make ends meet. The people who lost their medical benefits, or had to take pay cuts to keep their jobs, and the thousands who were down sized, or laid off because of factory closings. Do you think they based their opinion on a few Americans who like BMW’s and Japanese cameras?

Accusing Middle America for the deficit, especially by saying we caused it by our lust for foreign products is absurd, and thinking any sane person might believe it, is just as ridiculous. Americans want to believe the best from everyone and everything. If they expect the American people to buy that bunch of bogus Bullshit! They probably won’t be disappointed.
